Total Lunar Eclipse
We were fortunate to see the total lunar eclipse in
Singapore. Instead of the normal bright white full Moon (see the inset),
the Moon looked like a crescent Moon. On closer inspection, its red
"body" was apparent and progressed to an almost total eclipse before
passing out of the Earth's shadow to become a regular full Moon. The
lights in the lower left are that of an airplane that just happened to
be flying by the Moon during the 1.6s exposure. Simply Spectacular!!

The Moon is always a good starting target for
photography. Good detail can be obtained with any telescope and very
fast shutter speeds. |

Moon Halo
Canon 500D prime focus on C9.25. 1/25 sec ISO100.

by KJB.
This optical phenomenon is due to ice crystals in
the clouds. If you zoom in, you can actually see the colours of the
rainbow in the halo! |

The Moon in 170 Megapixels
A 13,000x13,000 composite image of the Moon.
Individual 1936x1096 frames were captured in video mode using ZWO's
ASI290MC CMOS camera mounted on Meade's LX200R 12". About 150 frames
were extracted from the video stream, and the images were then processed
in Photoshop CS6. They were initially lined up manually, then the moon
was divided into 9 sectors. Each sector was aligned and blended, largely
using Photoshop's photomerge function, and those that failed had to be
done by hand. Making-of video here.
